Tryke Gutierrez is CEO of Tier One Entertainment, and now a vlogger and podcaster.
His influencer marketing, gaming, and e-sports company is behind media sensation Cong TV and the content creator collective called Team Payaman, as well as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines champs Blacklist International.
Cong TV alone has 8.71 million subscribers on YouTube, where each of his videos get millions of views.
Gutierrez himself has 311K subscribers.
He said in a Zoom interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the press hosted by Spotify last June 8, 2021, “I try to balance my time when it comes to being out there in the Internet versus, you know, running the company, Tier One.”
He continued, “I think it’s very important for me as a CEO of an influencer marketing company, technically, to be out there, too.
“Because, if I’m not out there and if I don’t understand what’s happening in the micro, in terms of what type of new formats are there, like what do talents feel, and then, what are the things that are happening outside, you know, like, the clouds where I’m in, I think I’ll be off-tangent in terms of where the company’s gonna be going.
“Because of that, I try to find the time to make sure that I can do things like this, that’s why I try to be in YouTube, as well as in all of the other social media platforms.
“So that I can, you know, see what’s happening out there.
“It’s also kind of like my free time. I feel it as a free time, also. It’s my way to interact with our talents where it’s just fun.”
MAKING THE TRANSITION
Gutierrez is also busy with Team Payaman Insiders, a podcast project which he co-hosts with Team Payaman’s Junnieboy, RogerRaker, and Peachy Twice.
Is the transition from vlogging to podcasting hard?
He explained, “For us, it was kind of a natural transition. I mean, I talk a lot with our talents, with different people in our company, especially with Team Payaman.
“And they’re very entertaining to talk with. I mean, it’s mostly jokes, it’s mostly things that will help us move forward amidst people based on mindset, based on earning more, or based on whatever things in life, right?”
The platform, he said, also plays a big role in the success of the podcast.
“And I think the beauty about the platform that we have here in Spotify is that it’s specifically tailored for audio.
“And I think if you have that type of a platform, you know that every person who will be there for your content is used to that kind of audio-based content.
“So for me, that’s a really great advantage.”
One of the biggest challenges they encountered in creating a podcast is how to keep the audience engaged without using visuals.
The CEO shared, “I think the biggest difference is that with videos, you can get away without you talking each and every minute because your movements can cover for, you know, the entertainment side of things.
“You can shoot a certain picture and maybe that makes up for the entertainment or the content that your creating.
“But with podcast, it’s really substance. You need to be able to fill every minute with substance, either it’s a joke or it’s an advice or it’s something entertaining between each other that you’re talking about.”
CONTENT IS KING
For their podcast, Boss Tryke (his moniker) said they usually discuss topics that have never been talked about yet.
But most of the time, it depends on the group’s interest.
“We’re given multiple options by our back-end team to pick from. Initially how it goes with Team Payaman is it depends on the mood.
“Like if we feel like talking about a certain topic, we’re like, ‘Yeah, let’s talk about this, I have an anecdote or a story I want to share that’s related to that topic.’
“So I mean, for us, the most important thing is it’s something that nobody in YouTube has heard of before. I think that’s the number one metric that we’re trying to look for when we’re getting into a topic.
“And we also want the topic to be more relatable to a lot of audience.”
Boss Tryke said the content should be valuable to the audience.
He told the press, “In terms of creating a podcast, what’s really important is you need to be able to provide a certain content that really gives value to your listeners.
“Because no audience will be able to spend 30 minutes of their time trying to listen to something where they’re not gonna get anything, right?
“So whether it’s about love, provide the best love advice that you can provide as a person. Whether it’s about business, about skateboard, whatever interest that you have, as long as you provide a certain value to the audience, people will listen.”
To those who are planning to create their own podcast in the future, Boss Tryke’s advice is simple: don’t waste the listener’s time.
“Unlike your TikToks and all the other platforms where it’s short, for them to stay for 30 minutes, it has to be something of value to the audience that are following you.
“Don’t waste their time also. Like, come from that mindset where you want to make sure that the people who will listen to you will not waste their time listening to you.
“I think that’s kind of like the mindset any content creator needs going in to any type of content.”
